Advertising Tins are excellent collectibles for the beginning collector. They are available in almost every price range, from a couple of dollars to hundreds! There are tins put out by food/drink manufactures that are used by other types of businesses as advertising items by putting stickers or such on them, making them almost double advertisers!  The newer reproduction tins make wonderful decorator items as well as being collectible. As with all collectibles, old and original is best, but some of the reproduction/decorator tins go a long way in filling out a starting collection

This is an Uncle Ben's Rice Limited Edition 40th Anniversary tin dated from 1943 - 1983.  It has a beautiful Mississippi River Boat on the front with Uncle Ben's Rice in big blue letters below it.  On the opposite side reads  a bit of history: “ UNCLE BEN'S CONVERTED Brand Rice is famous now, but 40 years ago, it was considered ‘A revolution in rice.’  The breakthrough was developed to improve its nutrition.  Our unique process transfers the vitamins and minerals from the outer layers into the grain itself, seals in the nutrients and removes starch to help keep it from getting sticky.  So it comes out separate, tender and delicious every time.

In the 1940's, CONVERTED Brand Rice was provided for all of America under the name of UNCLES BEN'S.  Word has it, rice growers proudly compared their rice with the high quality grains grown by a Texan called Uncle Ben.  All rice growers claimed their rice was a "good as UCNLE BEN'S."

When only the best will do, say Uncle...UNCLE BEN'S.”

On the bottom of the can is an unclear marking, seems to be written perhaps with a felt tip pin, and perhaps an old thrift store-type price mark. This has not been removed in concern that I don’t know what I’m doing and just might ruin a part of the tin’s finish. I’ll leave that task to someone else!  Now, just below this mark, in black cursive, the following is printed:  Limited Edition Canister Special Designed for the 40th Anniversary of Uncle Ben's Converted Brand Rice.

This lovely tin is in great condition, no dents, no scratches and measures 7 – ¼” H. x 6” Dia.
