Basic Wig Care

Do not use human hair hairspray on a synthetic wig unless it is in pump form. Aqua-Net and it's cousins are VERY hard on wigs. There are special hair sprays and gels available specifically for synthetic wigs. It is recommended that you use a soft padded vent brush, pick, or wide tooth comb to style synthetic wigs so that they don't frizz or tear.

If you have a synthetic wig, you CANNOT apply ANY heat! No curling iron, hot rollers, hot water, or steam! If you want to restyle, or curl the wig, you can use a cold roller or cold curling iron and a good setting lotion or spray, and let it set for 24 hours. If it doesn’t hold tight enough, use some more setting spray and let it set for another 24 hours.

Do not store your wig on a solid wig stand. Hang them on a coat hanger or something similar where it can dry every time you wear it. Otherwise, it will grow mildew and mold.

Washing:

It is recommended that you wash your wig about every 10th time you wear it. If your wig picks up environmental smells(smoke, food, perfume, etc.) between washings, you can lightly mist it with a “refreshing” product such as ‘Febreze’ and let it air-dry.

When the time comes to wash your wig, you can buy certain wig shampoos, but the cheapest and easiest way to is to use liquid laundry detergent.

Use a tablespoon of soap, and a sinkful of COLD water and GENTLY swish the wig until you have some lather starting to build up. If you use hot water, you will lose the natural style of the wig forever!

Let the wig stand in the cold water for at least 1 minute, and no longer than 5 minutes.

Rinse in cold water several times until you are CERTAIN that all of the soap is out. Soap will build up and cause it to get sticky and tangled.

Then repeat the process using your favorite fabric softener. Once again, RINSE THOROUGHLY to avoid build up.

Use your best judgment about when to wash your wig, but remember that the more you wash it, the faster it will wear out. Just like the hair on your head, there is a certain amount of hair lost each time you wash it, and some wigs are worse than others.

DONOT BRUSH THE WIG WHILE WET!!! Hang it up, let it air-dry and then restyle. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask, we will be MORE than happy to help!
